Safe Pregnancy Detox Methods

Before my first trimester, before I just wanted to take naps, lounge around, before my house went to pot, before I stopped cooking...

I drank Kombucha daily - about 2 cups. I drank it because it detoxed my system and got rid of the environmental toxins around me; it helped me keep unhealthy bacteria in my gut to the correct levels and helped build the healthy bacteria in my gut.

I ate sauerkraut with my meals, also because of the great probiotic benefits.

I even made some sauerkraut...but it turned out disgusting!!!

Now I have my first post-pregnancy batch of kombucha brewing and I know I have to start at a low amount. Drinking too much kombucha while pregnant and not drinking it for awhile can create too much of a toxic release into the system, more than your liver can handle and could potentially put those toxins out in your placenta. Obviously not a good thing. I'll start with about a half a day for a week, and then move up to 1 cup a day. Hopefully, I'll be able to move up to 2 cups a day fairly quickly. But I must pay attention to my symptoms:

If I start having flu-like symptoms, raging headaches, stuffy nose, etc. I'm over-detoxing. We must detox slowly. A quick detox isn't good for anyone's body. Your body can only release and handle so much. So take detoxing slowly, this is one good step for safe detoxing.

Another great way to detox is through baths. Baths release the toxins out through the skin instead of through your liver. This can be a very gentle and safe detox.

I take a great bath in Epson Salts because they are high in magnesium. Magnesium is taking best through the skin. Did you know that we've been working so hard at increasing the amount of Calcium in our body that we forgot all about Magnesium and much of our society is Magnesium deficient. So a nice deep bath with 2 cups of epsom salt for about 20 minutes (maybe 30...) is a great way to get magnesium in your system. We should have 3 times the amount of magnesium in our system than calcium. Also - I don't know about you...but pregnancy makes me constipated...it sucks. Magnesium is awesome at helping with constipation. Thank you magnesium!

Here is a great detox bath recipe I got from a close friend that is very health conscious

2 cups Epsom Salt
2 cups Baking Soda
2 cups Hydrogen Peroxide

I know many people that are not pregnant take baths in Apple Cider Vinegar. I'm not sure if that's too detoxing and therefore isn't safe. This is a much safe and slow detox; so it should be very safe for you baby!
