So, I went to the chiropractor yesterday. I had to find a new chiropractor because my insurance changed. Yuk. I mean, I'd pay to see my old chiropractor, but our health costs are going to be out of control this year considering we're already having a baby - so our insurance went up this year, we're putting more funds in our FSA this year, plus taxes will probably hike a bit..so we're looking at about $200-$300 less per month.
I'm paying insurance, I can't afford to pay $180 for my chiropractor visits right now.
So, I searched for a chiropractor that new the Webster Technique through icpa4kids.com and a list of chiropractors covered through my insurance through my insurance website. Combined the two and came up with a list of about 5 chiropractors near me.
I was set on going to this one chiropractor that was nearby, but the I found THE chiropractor...
I looked at their website and she was all about traditional eating, Weston Price, the GAPS diet...I mean, all the things I really love. She would totally know where I was coming from and I could be real with her. Wait...I mean - I could tell her I drank raw milk and took Fermented Cod Liver Oil and I totally believe in eating lots of healthy fats, and .. ahhh... such a breath of fresh air knowing I can be honest with someone in the health profession field. Thank you Dr. Carrie Clark!
So we talked, I told her why I was there- basically I want an easier delivery than last time...and my lower back was causing some pain. She asked me a few questions, we talked about raw milk and the feds, and some goofy video about natural mommas going around facebook. It was chiropractor heaven. I really liked my previous chiropractor, but I didn't know much about her food beliefs; this is all out there in the open. It's pretty fantastic.
So she suggested a few supplements for me:
1) I had to increase my Fermented Cod Liver Oil - Yuk! But, I get it. It's got a ton of Vitamin D and Vitamin A in it and people swear by the fermented stuff - only available through Green Pastures. She said that even with the teaspoon I was taking a day and the extra 2000 iug of Vitamin D I was taking on the side it wasn't enough. I needed to be getting closer to 5000 iug a day...We do live in Minnesota. There is no sunshine in the winter. And even if there was...I wouldn't be brave enough to go outside for its benefits.
2) Butter Oil - I've been meaning to get Butter Oil from Green Pastures..but I have to order it online, it's expensive..and some other excuses. But of course, they had it right there at the office. Okay - I'll take Butter Oil - it helps the FCLO (Fermented Cod Liver Oil) work better in your body. So - okay, I'm gonna take it.
3) 5 HTP - This is the precursor to Serotonin. It also helps you sleep. So I took one last night when I went to bed and slept...I only woke up once. So happy about that. AND I was able to GET BACK TO SLEEP..
4) GABA - This is to help you relax. I can't remember much about this, but I'll learn more.
5) L-Glutamine - Okay - so I'm a big fan of eating HOME-MADE broth from chicken, beef, and fish (halibut makes excellent fish broth). Home-made broth is way different from the broth you buy in the store - it has a ton of minerals, gelatin and good stuff in it to build your body into a healthy machine. It is also very helpful to heal your gut - every heard of leaky gut syndrome? Apparently your gut is amazing. You have good bacteria and bad bacteria and you have to maintain a delicate balance - you produce 90% of your serotonin in your gut. I mean - it's crazy how much the bacteria in your gut effects. Autoimmun diseases? Maybe you should take a look at your gut health. BUT - what good is a healthy gut if it's leaking all the time and you're constantly in therapeutic mode replenishing the good bacteria and serotonin??? I mean.. seal that sucka! So L-Glutamine is found in bone broths and it's a supplement - get on that sucka right away. Seal that gut and get healthy. Healthier gut means healthier baby and healthier breast milk and easier delivery. Etc. I mean...this is HUGE.
And to add to this, she told me to get the book "The Mood Cure." SO GOOD. I'm only on chapter 3 and I've been learning so much... Like how important serotonin is and tryptophan and why you want to skip out on being a vegetarian. Meats are good.
So. That's what I learned. Going back Friday. Loving this book. I'll write more about that as I learn. It's incredible and seriously could change you and your families life. It's that good.
I have a new batch of Kombucha brewing in the kitchen, I'm waiting on a yogurt and piima culture, I'm going to make some yogurt while I wait (keep that yogurt fermenting for 24 hours - tons of really good probiotics in that sucka.) I've been upping my intake of sauer kraut - that also has a ton of great probiotics in it. Oh yeah...and I have vitamins sitting on the counter waiting for. My Usana vitamins - the Essentials - Mega Antioxidants and Chelated Minerals, my vitamin D, my fish oil, my digestive enzyme, and a ton of Fermented Cod Liver and Butter Oil...did I miss anything????
Ah - and I have to clean. I have so much laundry I want to just die. I started to clean the table and got distracted. Everything needs to be dusted, vacuumed, scrubbed, washed, etc. BEFORE my MIL comes tomorrow at 6 pm.
Crap.
